SKY: The Great Rhino Robbery

The Great Rhino Robbery is a compelling three-part documentary series that explores the alarming decline in rhino populations driven by poaching, shedding light on the individuals who profit from the illegal trade of their horns. It also follows the dedicated individuals and organisations working tirelessly to stop these criminals and protect the future of rhinos.

We joined the project in early 2023 and contributed to 40 GFX sequences over a six-month period. For The Great Rhino Robbery, we created a diverse range of visual content, including website and email interfaces, criminal hierarchy diagrams, maps, and screen replacements.

Website/Email Interface

Creating the website interfaces posed a unique challenge, we needed them to feel authentic while ensuring they didn’t infringe on copyright. To achieve this, we designed and built all websites and email interfaces from scratch, maintaining realism while avoiding legal concerns.

Diagrams

Visualising the criminal organisation in a clear and compelling way was also essential. We developed a ‘family tree’ style hierarchy diagram and worked closely with the client to ensure accuracy and clarity from the viewer’s perspective. To differentiate between the groups, we used a sleek digital aesthetic for the Irish crime family, while the Thai crime family was represented with an analogue, paper dossier-style design.

Maps

The maps were designed in a sleek digital surveillance style, infused with a subtle espionage thriller aesthetic to enhance the sense of intrigue and investigation.
