Netflix: A Deadly American Marriage
We had a great experience working with UK-based directors Jessica Burgess and Jenny Popplewell, on this hit Netflix documentary. A Deadly American Marriage explores the 2015 killing of Jason Corbett, an Irish father of two, by his wife, Molly Martens Corbett, and her father, Thomas Martens, who claimed self-defence. The documentary delves into the perspectives of both the accused and Jason’s family, uncovering the deep divides at the heart of this tragic case.
A Deadly American Marriage – Graphics Reel
We focused on creating GFX that felt authentic and grounded to complement the storytelling. In social media, email, and text messaging shots, we avoided overly stylised aesthetics to prevent sensationalising the complex and conflicting narratives of the victims and alleged perpetrators. To illustrate Jason’s reputation as a family man, we reconstructed photo albums from his first marriage, while creating distinct, cleaner digital photo albums for his second marriage to differentiate the time periods visually.
