Having worked previously with Producer Ellie Emptage (Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist ) we came on board the film in the later stages of the edit, to consider a graphical approach to film which would embed seamlessly within the established edit.

The film looks at the life and legacy of SinĂ©ad O’Connor – focusing on the years 1987 – 1993.

It had its world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2022, after which it was acquired by Showtime. The film was theatrically released in the UK and Ireland by Paramount International on October 7, 2022.

Photographs

Director Kathryn Ferguson was interested in an approach to the photographic imagery that allowed the gravitas of the images to sit firmly in the film. We focussed on bringing forth this sense of iconography with our approach.

Newspapers

We employed a simple, understated approach the newspapers in the film, of which there were few. We explored an aesthetic which focussed primarily on texture and headline clarity.

We worked on the film for three months, from October 2021 until Sundance in January 2022. We worked on 41 shots and sequences throughout the film, including title, stills, newspapers, album art treatments and presentation credits.

Title Card

We explored a number of aesthetics for the title card, and settled on this version which has a nostalgic classic feel, leaning into her iconic video work.
