Working with Passion Pictures, Allison Brownmoore designed an opening title sequence for Laura Fairrie’s film, The Spiral. The film explores the rise of anti-Semitism and assaults against Jews in present-day France.

She came on board on the later stages of the edit, to design a title sequence which conceptualised the key themes of the film. Laura and producers John and Daniel Battsek were interested in the sequence feeling universal, and exploring the concept of journey.

She was provided with a rough cut of the sequence, where editor Gregor Lyon had selected a range of shots. She took these shots, and later introduced a few shots which she had sourced, which she felt were important to the sequence.

It was important for Allison during the sequence to explore an aesthetic which was deep within intensity and oppression, but within that, there were moments of light. It was the journey itself which instilled hope, leaving behind the anti-Semitism and creating a new life abroad. She used the vibrant yellow to punctuate these moments, and the scattering of the dots to represent the self directed exile.

The film was later released after a re-edit, during which the title sequence was changed.
